The Bourneville Gate
The “Bourneville Gate” was also based on sketches by Claude Nicolas Ledoux.
This building was never constructed. Claude Nicolas Ledoux had imagined it as the entrance to a park. The gate designed by Claude Nicolas Ledoux had 2 towers, but at the Aire du Jura, only one tower has been built.

Its purpose
This gate is the first architectural element visible at the Aire du Jura and it symbolises the entrance to a “green area”.
The restaurants and regional produce shop are located on either side of the arch.
On fine days, you can climb the 163 steps to the top of the 25-metre high tower. Anyone curious enough to climb the tower will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the Aire du Jura, the Bresse plain and the foothills of the Jura Mountains! The viewpoint can be reached through the shop. Admission is free, but restricted to 15 people at a time. |
